SHARK TANK REGISTRATIONS OPEN: Deadline for applications to attend Youngstown Business Incubator’s 3rd Annual Event “Shark Tank” The pitch competition is September 1st.

The event adapted a popular TV show where entrepreneurs pitch their business ideas to panels. “shark” Regional startups will give elevator pitches to a panel of six local and regional entrepreneurs for a chance to win prizes to fund their businesses.

It’s scheduled for October 6th from 5-8pm at Mr. Anthony’s in Boardman.

Two Get Funeral Certification: Reverends Louis W. Macklin and Emma Linnen of JE Washington Funeral Services recently completed a three-day workshop to become certified funeral masters.

Priests, who can be lay, clergy, or funeral directors, provide personalized funerals, tributes, memorial services, and memorials at the cemetery. They meet with families to help design services that reflect the lives and attributes of loved ones.

The training was held at the Ohio Association of Funeral Directors in Columbus.

Macklin is the senior pastor of Holy Trinity Missionary Baptist Church and pastor of the Youngstown Police Department.

Linnen holds a BA in Women and Gender Studies with a minor in Philosophy from Youngstown State University. She is enrolled at the Pittsburgh Dead Science Institute.

MERCY HEALTH LABS RECERTIFIED: Mercy Health-Youngstown’s Boardman and Howland Electromyography Lab has been reaccredited with exemplary status by the American Association of Neuromuscular & Electrodiagnostic Medicine.

The EMG laboratory specializes in tests that assess nerve and muscle function and evaluate potential neurological disorders.

To be accredited with exemplary status, physicians conducting laboratory research must have completed a neurology or physical therapy and rehabilitation training program. Completed a minimum of three months of electrodiagnostic medicine training as part of a residency or fellowship program. Certified by the American Board of Electrodiagnostic Medicine, or the American Board of Psychiatry in Clinical Neurophysiology, or the ABPN/American Board of Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation in Neuromuscular Disorders.

Businessman named Grand Commodore: Dave Johnson, CEO of Summitville Tiles Inc. and owner of Hanoverton’s Spread Eagle Tavern & Inn, was recently named Grand Commodore of the Ohio Commodore Association. I took office.

The event takes place on Thursdays from 7:30-9:30 am at the Eastwood Event Center in Niles. The cost is $40 per member and $50 per non-member.

The event is also the official kickoff for Canfield Fair and Youngstown State football. The keynote speaker is General Michael Brogan, who retired from the Marine Corps in 2011 after 31 years of honorable service. His primary responsibility was to oversee and maintain his chain of supplies to US forces in the Middle East.

AVENGE HUNGER CAMPAIGN TO START: Through October 2, Armstrong is launching its fifth annual Avenge Hunger Month campaign to fight hunger across its service territories.

Local Armstrong stores collect non-perishable food and monetary donations for local feeding programs. The resources collected will help deliver over 200 community feeding programs in Armstrong’s service areas, including Ohio and Pennsylvania.

Doctor. Joining AKRON CHILDREN’S: Dr. Nicole Kendel She joined Akron Children’s Hospital’s Showers Family Childhood Cancer and Blood Disorders Center as a Pediatric Hematology Oncologist.

Kendell completed a Pediatric Hematology/Oncology residency and fellowship at Nationwide Children’s Hospital. She holds a M.D. and M.D. from Ohio State University.
