The Fort Dodge Cross-Country Team has a handful of solid letter winners this season.

We are planning 6 experienced men and 4 girls.

Senior Ryan Madden, the Dodgers’ workhorse a year ago, is once again the top contender.

“Ryan is our leader and he’s worked hard this summer,” said Fort Dodge boys and girls head coach Joe Jackson. “He puts in a lot of mileage and has great intentions to do well.

“He looks strong and I hope his wishes come true.”

Also returning to the Dodgers are senior Joshua Madden, junior Michael Wagner, sophomore Brady Major, Micah Flaherty, Sean Roberts and Tanner Teskey.

“The rest of us are right there,” said Jackson. “We don’t want to start the season too quickly. We are phasing in training and seeing where we are after the first competition.

“We don’t want to go out too soon, and you’ll see them challenging each other as we progress.”

Jackson sees Madden’s leadership as a key component of the Dodgers’ progress.

“Ryan is full of fun and passion in everything he does.” Jackson said. “I’m a drum major both in the band and on stage.

“He brings an element of fun, excitement and welcome to new people. This is a group of hard working kids.”

Returning for the girls are third graders Dali Cook, Katie Rhodamaker, and sophomores Madeleine Stefan and Paige Lewis.

“Dali had a great season last season and came back strong from injury,” Jackson said. “She’s a great leader and after last season she proved that when she returned.

“All of our letter-winners have been through it, so they know what to expect.”

Jackson will look to first-year runner Kirsin There for a spot in the rotation.

“Kursin Zea, who was in the marathon class last year, is on the field and is a very hard worker,” said Jackson. “She is consistent and focused.

“Kurshin may surprise some people this year.”

Jackson again gets an assist from Shelby Curry.
