MANSFIELD – Mary L. Fontes, 76, of Mansfield died suddenly on Tuesday, August 23, 2022 at Sturdy Memorial Hospital in Attleboro. She was the wife of the late James Daniel Fontes and the mother of the late Christopher Lee Fontes.
Born in Royal Oak, Michigan, she was the daughter of Cornelius and Olga Van Egmond of Michigan.
Mary earned her nursing degree from Michigan State University, where she met her husband, Jim. After working as her RN in Germany, where Jim was stationed in the Army, she practiced nursing for many years at her Sturdy Memorial Hospital and her Foxboro Health Center. In the mid-’80s, she graduated from Bryant University with her MBA and master’s degree in health care, and until her retirement in 2016, she became a private practitioner working at a variety of her HMOs. She is survived by her daughter Jennifer and Plymouth husband Karl Anderson, and two daughters Hannah and Emilia. Her daughter-in-law, Susan (Torres) Fontes, her son, Danielle, and daughter, Maggie of Situation. Mary was renowned for her infectious positive energy, strength, and unique ability to spread love, joy and healing to everyone she knew. and healing spirits, and opened a spiritual garden to bring comfort to many during their time of grief. A passionate singer, she spent her happy years in the choir of St Mary’s Church and performed a heartbreaking rendition of Ave Her Mary at the wedding of her two children. disturbed his house. Mrs. Fontes’ phone hours will be on Thursday, September 1, 2022 from 4:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. at the Crapo-Hathaway Funeral Home, 350 Somerset Ave., Taunton, MA.
