88th Annual Dixie Roundup Rodeo promises 3 days of action-packed family entertainment – ​​St. George News

Contributed Content — a A local favorite for generations, the Dixie Roundup Rodeo returns to the heart of historic downtown St. George for the first time in 88 years. Enjoy his three action-packed days of competition and entertainment filled with patriotism and Southern Utah pride.

Rodeo president Matt Stillman said, “It’s a community tradition. It represents the legacy of the local people here.”

This year’s Dixie Roundup Rodeo Held at the Dixie Sunbowl on Thursdays, Fridays and Saturdays from 6-11pm. Also, don’t miss the Rodeo Parade, which returns on its traditional route through downtown St. George.parade on saturday Departs St. George’s Tabernacle Street at 9:00 AM, traveling from near 200 West to 400 East.

Flag jumpers are expected to deliver the Stars and Stripes at the beginning of each night, depending on wind conditions. United We Pledge will host a patriotic ceremony on Saturday to mark the 234th anniversary of the signing of the Constitution.

Each year, the Rodeo Committee selects local citizens for their contributions to the community. A member of the St. George Lions since the early 1970s, Rick Roche has the honor of touring the arena as Grand His Marshal.

“He’s a Lions legend,” Stillman said. “It’s about 50 years of community service.”

The 2022 Rodeo Queen and Princess were chosen in May. Rodeo royalty contestants will be judged on modeling, public speaking, impromptu questions, photogenic ability, interview him skills, and key elements of horsemanship. His 18-year-old Dali, from St. George, and his 14-year-old, Treylin Dannelly, from Hollyoak and Enterprise, attended rodeos throughout Utah during the summer, representing his Lions at various events. Opening Thursday is Kids Night. Children 11 and under are admitted free. Spend your money on St. George Lyons’ “World Famous” burgers and hot dogs instead.

Beer barn, which was newly introduced at last year’s rodeo, is back. Participants also have a chance to win half the beef in two prize draws.

Friday is Pink Night, and $1 from every ticket is set aside for the Intermountain Foundation for breast cancer patients in Southern Utah. Both spectators and rodeo competitors are encouraged to wear pink and support breast cancer awareness. Lions have donated over $100,000 over the years.

Stillman said the rodeo final, which always sells out quickly, takes place on Saturday. The Dixie Roundup Rodeo is sanctioned by the Professional Rodeo Cowboys Association and features some of the best cowboys and cowgirls the West has to offer. Bull riding, bareback and saddleback riding, team roping, steer wrestling, and barrel racing are competitive categories.

Admission is $20 per person, $15 for adults, $5 for children 11 and under with seat selection. Children 2 and under who can sit on an adult’s lap are admitted free. Tickets can be purchased directly from St. George Lions at 301 E. 100 South or by calling the rodeo hotline at 435-673-3301. Our offices are open daily from 9am to 4pm.

The Dixie Roundup Rodeo started as a small event held by the founding members of the St. George Lions. The Dixie Sun Bowl has been home to rodeos since the arena opened in the late 1940s.

Today, the rodeo is the sole source of income for St. George Lions, supporting charitable giving to scholarship funds, rodeo clubs, college sports teams, local 4-H and Future Farmers of America high school programs. Proceeds also fund the local arm of the Lions International Initiative to improve the quality of life for the visually impaired.
