Plans after Graduation: Geriot graduated from Carnegie Mellon University’s Heinz College of Information Systems and Public Policy with a Master’s degree in Entertainment Industry Management. She will stay for one year each in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania and Los Angeles, California for her master’s program.
How HPU helped us achieve our goals: “High Point University prepared me for my goals both inside and outside the classroom. Two undergraduate internships helped me gain professional experience in the field I wanted The HPU environment provided me with an intellectual challenge and built my confidence that I was well prepared for the next step.”
HPU’s most influential mentors: “My most influential mentor at HPU was Dylan Denning, former Chief Concierge and new Senior Director of Student Experience. Campus Concierge was my first ‘real’ job. Dylan taught me what it means to work in a dedicated team and have a strong work ethic. She’s seen Dylan move her mountains while serving as a concierge, and she’s grateful to have her as a mentor.
HPU’s most impactful moment: “One of HPU’s most influential moments was when video production club HPU Vision produced its own version of NBC’s ‘The Voice’ in 2021 and 2022. This was a huge feat for the club and required a great deal of planning. I was the producer for this broadcast and he had over 6,000 viewers. His two years as President of the Graphic Design Club in the Faculty of Art and Design improved his leadership skills. I was able to bring some famous designers to campus and talk to the students. This was a big achievement for me. ”
How has HPU’s stimulating environment contributed to your success? “HPU’s rigorous curriculum gave me the confidence to succeed in the graduate interview. I am ready to be one of the students of the Nido R. Qubein School of Communication, which would not have been possible without my media production experience in classes and extracurricular activities within the Nido R. Qubein School of Communication.”
What life skills has HPU helped you develop and set you up for long-term success? “The program curriculum for both majors and extracurricular activities allowed me to grow as a leader and as a student.It also allowed me to perfect the technical skills necessary for my chosen field. I was able to become more independent by participating in this wonderful study abroad program.”
What values and virtues have the HPU campus helped you grow? “My classes on the HPU campus have taught me to value the wonderful classroom experience and time with my professors. They were more than happy to help when needed.I was very grateful for my education and developed a drive to succeed.”
Advice for underclassmen: “Always do what scares you. Apply for internships and jobs you think you can’t get. Let’s put it there.You can’t achieve anything without taking risks.If you fail, try again!”
