MILAN – Milan kicked off the Huron League volleyball season with a strong statement.
The Big Reds beat Flatrock in three sets on Monday, winning 25-20, 25-17, 25-10.
“I feel my girls have played very well,” said Milan coach Cathy Bradshaw. We’ve already seen a lot of improvement in this young team since the weekend and I’m really looking forward to seeing what they do.”
Sylvia Koch led the offense with 12 kills and setter Madison Slack added 24 assists. On defense, Amanda Gregorio recorded 16 digs and his five aces, while Mariah Steins recorded his two blocks.

NEW BOSTON – Raelyn Turner hits 13 digs as St. Mary Catholic Central defeats New Boston Huron 25-7, 25-15, 25-19 in the Huron League opener, extending their record to 8-3 .

Top 3 in Bedford and Jefferson
ADRIAN − Bedford finished second and Jefferson finished third at the Adrian Invitational at Woodlawn Golf Club on Monday.
Ypsilanti Lincoln won the title with a 373 team score. Bedford had his 406 and Jefferson his 414.
Lauren Werbiansky was third with 94, leading Mules who had strong cards of Elaina Smith (101) and Grace Lump (104).
Jefferson’s Rylee Dunn and Callie Calvin both shot 98s.
Bedford JV finished fifth with 98 points for the team led by Ashlen Trimmer.
Noland goes low
ADRIAN – Summerfield Sr. Ellie Noland scored a career-best 45 on Monday against Sand Creek at the Woodlawn Golf Cub. The competition was not scored because the Wildcats had only three golfers.
Delaney Hoffman had 52 and Cameron Taylor shot 57 at Summerfield.
Riverview Nip SMCC
Riverview Sr. Megan Rodgers hit the field by eight strokes Monday for a close 214-218 win over St. Mary’s Catholic Central at the Monroe Golf & Country Club.
Gracie Gentry led the Kestrel with 50. Nora Kinsey (56), Madeline Gessner (56), Emmagesner (56) and Alaina Willie (57) also performed well in his SMCC.

PETERSBURG – Both the 7th and 8th graders from Summerfield swept Britton Deerfield on Monday.

Sweeney wins for England
ERIE – David Sweeney and Riley England won the upper age division of the Knights of Columbus Soccer Shooting Challenge for youth ages 9-14 held during St. Joseph Homecoming Picnic Sunday in Erie.
Sweeney won the men’s 12-year-old class and England won the women’s 14-year-old class. Other men’s winners were Dominique Imbrogno (11), Ethan McLaughlin (10) and Colin Solaric (9). On the women’s side, Lauren Seager (10) and Ali England (9) won.
