Texas' starting QB? Sark claims Card, Ewers are both 'routine'

texas Coach Steve Sarkisian on Monday gave no hint as to who will be the starting quarterback this week against the Longhorns. UTSAand claimed to have been injured Quinn Ewers and top backup hudson card It is “everyday”.

But when the Longhorns (1-1) face the Roadrunners (1-1), there are signs that it could be redshirt junior Charles Wright on the field.

What Texas Takes from Loss to Alabama

Joel Klatt explains what the loss of QB Quinn Ewers means for the Longhorns moving forward.

Ewers left the game with a shoulder injury after being hit hard at the end of Saturday’s 20-19 loss to Alabama in the first quarter. Ewers pinned his left arm with a sling after half-time, and Card finished the game despite an apparent limp with his sprained ankle in the second half.

Sarkisian said after the game that Ewers had a sprained collarbone and will undergo further tests.

Ewers is expected to miss four to six weeks with an SC sprain, Sunday’s report said.

But Sarkisian didn’t elaborate on the team’s quarterback situation during his weekly press conference. .

“It’s for me,” said Sarkisian.

“I know you want an accurate timetable,” he said. “I’m going to say, they’re every day. I really don’t know. We have to watch them every morning.”

And then there’s Wright, who was third on the sideline against Alabama.

“We know Quinn is injured. Hudson has his ankle. We have to get Charles up to speed and get him used to everyone on the offense.” Make sure you understand the circumstances under which you may be caught.”

Sarkisian said he reported to the campus in January that new student Marik Murphy, who attended spring training, was not in good health, but did not elaborate.

For Texas, the injury problem could be even more acute. Defensive back and kick his returner D’Shawn Jamison left the game for Alabama with a leg injury.

Sarkisian will only say that none of the injuries require surgery.

Sarkisian also said Robinson was living a normal life, although he was supporting his right shoulder after suffering several hard blows. expects to be ready for the game.

Losing both Ewers and Card would be a blow to the fast-starting offense against Alabama. Ewers passed for 134 yards in the first quarter before he got injured.

Card was the starter for the first two games of 2021, falling well behind Ewers against Alabama. Wright stayed around the flock of attacking sidelines, but he never took the field.

“Charles was the next man,” said Sarkisian. “A lot of kudos to Charles. He’s come a long way since a year ago. I think he understands our attack very well and knows how to manage things. I think I threw the ball better and more accurately, and I have a lot more confidence that I need in that position.”

Another option is to use running backs in a “wildcat” formation snapped directly by Roshon Johnson. Johnson played quarterback in high school, and Texas used that formation to a season-closing victory over Kansas State last year.

“Whatever we ask him to do, he will do it,” said Sarkisian.

UTSA coach Jeff Traylor said he expects the quarterback on the field to be ready to execute Texas’ game plan.

“Sark can coach now,” Traylor said. “I don’t know what I’ll see on Saturday.”
