With basically two weeks left until Week 1 of the NFL season, most injuries aren’t such a big deal at this point. There should be plenty of time for , and missing the final week of preseason over a minor issue is no big deal.
But I’m starting to worry about Cam Akers. Akers has been sidelined with backfield mate Darrell Henderson for several weeks with an unspecified soft tissue injury, which he lost to the Bengals in the preseason finale. And while most reports so far indicate that injuries aren’t considered a serious concern, McVay says Akers isn’t going full speed yet.
“Darrell will definitely (practice),” McVay told reporters. “Today Darrell was able to run full sprint, we were able to train on the grass. I’m really excited to be back there.”

Akers returned late last season from a torn Achilles tendon but struggled to make a big impact in the playoffs, rushing for 172 yards on 67 carries as the team’s lead in the Super Bowl run. Letting him get closer to full speed allowed him to do so, but questions remained, given how difficult it was to come back from an Achilles injury. Heading into preseason, Akers was ranked midrange RB2, but the fact that he is dealing with another injury and is not yet cleared to play has demoted him outside the top 20. Not only because he might not be ready for week 1 (he should still be ready at this point) but also to avoid re-injury In that respect, he presents another potential landmine that must be avoided.
Akers is off the board in round 4 in most drafts, but I don’t touch him until round 5 or 6. There are positives here, but there were also reports that he split first-team rep with Henderson before his injury, so he can’t play the three-down role we want him to do when he’s healthy. Maybe.
We hope to see some positive reports from Akers in the coming weeks as preparations move into Week 1, but at this point Henderson should also move up the ranks. He’s a potential starter for Week 1 if Akers’ slow recovery continues, and an upward bench beyond that as his option, someone he should be drafted around round 8 or 9. is.
Here are some players whose value hit this weekend.
patriots offense
There’s been a strange vibe to the Patriots offense since mini-camp when Bill Belichick declined to nominate offensive coordinator after Josh McDaniels left. Training His camp revealed that Matt Patricia and Joe Judge would be in charge of the offense, but not a duo that inspires great personal confidence. It doesn’t help. Visibly frustrated when Mac Jones made a very bad pick against his Raiders team who went 9-for-13 where he gained 71 yards and rested most of the starters. Seeing them there didn’t help. History tells us not to bet on Bill Belichick, but outside the camp, this offense is a problem, and we didn’t see many remarks in his game refuting it. . I am worried.
Clarity in the Chargers’ backfield
Given his use so far in camp and preseason, I almost moved Joshua Kelly to the Chargers’ No. 2 RB spot behind Austin Ekeler. Rowntree got the start, playing more snaps in the “first team” offense (led by Chase Daniel), with Kerry acting as a clearer backup. As such, it’s going to be very difficult to find out who Ekeler’s backup is, and I think this would probably be a pretty sticky situation if something happened to Ekeler.Rookie Isaiah Spiller is also a potential option. Coming Soon. Current Depth Chart. Given the lack of clarity, I think Spiller is probably the best bet for this offensive late round in hopes that he can emerge as a clear second to him as a flyer, but it might be best to avoid this. I can’t.
Garrett Wilson
The Jets have invested heavily in Wilson, the 10th overall pick in this year’s draft, but they don’t appear to be forcing him into the starting lineup just yet. All reports out of camp were pretty positive, according to Pro Football Focus, but Wilson was mostly used as a backup in Sunday’s preseason finale, only playing alongside the starter when Cory Davis left the field. Elijah Moore and Braxton Berrios look to be ahead of him on the depth chart. This seems to be a consistent feature of previous attacks. This doesn’t mean you can’t or shouldn’t draft Wilson in a redraft format, but understand that patience will be required early on. Don’t panic if you don’t. You’re drafting him for your long-term advantage.
James Cook
Cook started on Friday, but it was a second-team offense. When That was with Zach Moss inactive. Does that mean Cook is the third running back? Potentially this could be a scenario where Cook is the third down back and Moss is the actual backup for single tally. In any case, the talk outside of camp suggests that all three should be active on game day, with Singletary clearly leading, so Cook is early. His pass-catching skills could make him stand out, especially in this backfield, but he probably needs to be patient given his role early in the season. This is another man who has
Mike Geschki
In three drives with Tagovailoa, Gesicki had the second-most snaps of any Dolphins tight end. He ran most of the routes, but this was his three-man rotation of Durham Smyth and Seathan Carter. Gesicki talked about this preseason that he basically had to learn a new position. Because after being used almost entirely as a receiver last season, the Dolphins are asking him to become a more traditional tight end. He has lined up 24 times as his end inline his tight compared to his 14 in slots per PFF after playing his 85% of snaps in slots or out last season . Here he is in more pain for Gesicki and a touchdown or bust he may not get enough chances over TE.
Noah Fant
Fant continues in rotation with Will Disley and Colby Parkinson, so in the Seahawks’ first five drives, no tight end ran the route more than 50% of dropbacks. It’s been a trend throughout preseason and it’s very difficult to draft Fant as a late round sleeper. I still think he has very compelling skills for fantasy.TE Premium Score In a standard 12-team league without rings, Fant is probably best left to Waver at this point.
