The Walt Disney Company Centenary is the largest cross-company global celebration in its 100-year history. Dick Clark’s New Year’s Rockin’ Eve With Ryan Seacrest at ABC. This post details what we know so far about Disneyland’s entertainment plans during the Disney100.
At the D23 Expo opening ceremony, Disney CEO Bob Chapek said: “It’s a tremendous responsibility to lead Disney as we enter our second century of telling stories and creating magic that will last another 100 years.”
At D23 Expo 2022, we unveiled Mickey Mouse in a sparkling new platinum outfit that is a must-see at Disneyland’s Disney100 Meet & Greet, Cavalcade and more. According to the company, the costume was designed to reflect Disney’s optimism and creativity as it celebrates its 100th anniversary and looks to the next century.
Throughout the weekend, fans heard about incredible new entertainment, experiences, and events from all corners of The Walt Disney Company to celebrate. From his 2023 release by Walt Disney Animation Studios wish When Disney 100: Exhibition, With national and international tours starting next year and a grand new opening at Disneyland Resort, here’s a taste of what’s happening at the Disney 100…
Disneyland Resort will have special, limited-time celebrations throughout the year, with the Disney100 kicking off in late January 2023. The Happiest Place on Earth features new platinum-infused decor, new glowing looks for Mickey Mouse, Minnie and her Mouse and friends, special food and drink offerings, and more.
Disneyland Resort guests will be enthralled by two all-new nighttime spectacles at Disney 100. First, let’s take a look at what’s new in DCA…

At Disney California Adventure, “World of Color – One” celebrates the storytelling legacy started by Walt Disney a century ago.
World of Color – Tells a new story of how one action like a drop of water creates ripples that grow into waves of change. Bringing the most courageous, loving and inspiring characters to life in new ways. In addition, the original new song “Start a Wave” was also performed.

I wish I could say I’m cautiously optimistic about World of Color – One, but I’m not.
Like the Disney Enchantment, this concept art looks like “it pays tribute to all things Disney, but really it’s just the Disney+ streaming content we want to promote.” If World of Color – One is celebrating 100 years of the legacy and company started by Walt Disney, it makes sense that 10% of the show is from the last decade. It’s okay if 15-20% of your shows are from the last 10 years.

I’m skeptical that this “one” will pass that test.
Even so, the scars of the Disney enchantment are still raw. Disney Enchantment doesn’t have many fans, but those who enjoy the show seem to do so, mainly despite its content.

The colorful fountains, lasers, and other cool visuals featured in World of Color also have a certain charm. But it’s not the same. World of Color is longer and doesn’t have the primal charm of Explosion. Sure, there’s the Captain Jack Sparrow and fire part that everyone loves, but that’s about it.
World of Color simply can’t “get around” the same pacing issues, song-choice shortcomings, etc. evident in Disney Enchantment. Hopefully another team will take care of World of Color – One.

At Disneyland, Walt Disney’s original magical kingdom becomes a magnificent canvas in The Wondrous Journey.
Wondrous Journeys showcases all 60 films ever produced by Walt Disney Animation Studios, taking visitors on a journey filled with artistry, music, storytelling and heart. We continue to build on Disneyland’s state-of-the-art projection effects, transforming the park into an artist’s canvas, bringing the characters around you to life like fireworks in the sky. Beauty’s Castle, “It’s a Small World,” and the scenery along the American River.
“Wondrous Journeys” also includes a surprising new song “It’s Wondrous” that D23 Expo participants heard for the first time!

I’m more optimistic about Disneyland’s Wondrous Journey than I am about World of Color-One.
This may seem counterintuitive, given that most of my fears of World of Color were based on the underwhelming Disney Enchantment. Unlike World of Color – One, this is a castle park firework show…just like Wonderous Journeys.

The difference is (usually) there is a certain amount of respect for all things Disneyland within the company, and the locals hold everything at Walt Disney’s parks to a higher standard. It’s one thing to shove Disney+’s sizzle reels into the upstart Second Gate, but pulling that kind of shenanigans at Disneyland is something else entirely.
On top of that, Disney has already shown that Wondrous Journeys is a nod to all 60 WDAS films. This is a smart move and suggests a better balance. (That is, unless the 10 most recent are the majority of the show and the first 24 are all part of a single projection.)
Oh, and the “It’s Wonderful” song was really fun.

Finally, the highly anticipated “Magic Happens” parade will return to Disneyland in Spring 2023.
The parade ran for about two weeks before it closed, but it’s still new in essence. We haven’t seen Magic Happens yet and have resisted the temptation to watch it on YouTube or listen to the soundtrack. Nice to hear it’s finally back!

Ultimately, it sounds like Disneyland Resort will be the company’s “hub” for The Walt Disney Company’s 100th anniversary, which makes sense. , Disneyland was the original and is still the best gem. This is his park, home to the vast majority of company executives, imagineers, and other creators.
So it makes sense for Disneyland to host the Disney 100. Find out how the company is using the parks for pop-up events and special events for Californians, and what else is being done to celebrate the company’s 100th anniversary. It’s interesting to see. As always, we’ll keep you posted!
