The Chicago Bears announced Tuesday plans for a new stadium they hope to build in Chicago’s Arlington Heights neighborhood. I hope.

The franchise has released a statement on its website discussing preliminary plans for a 326-acre site that will become a domed stadium surrounded by an entertainment district on the site of what was once the Arlington Park racetrack. The Bears are still negotiating a deal at the site.

“While the Bears will not seek public funding for the construction of a direct stadium structure, given the broad and long-term public interest of this project, we will partner with various government agencies to support its feasibility. We look forward to securing the additional funding and support needed for the remainder of development,” the team said in a statement.

If the team chooses to proceed with the purchase of the Arlington Park property and the Bears organization chooses to proceed with the development of the property, the project will be one of the largest development projects in Illinois history.

The team analyzes what to expect from the project, including “a multi-purpose entertainment district underpinned by a new best-in-class enclosed stadium.” We hope that the new stadium will lead to events like the Super Bowl and college football playoffs, and that more people will want to use it as a host site.

The Bears envision the entertainment district to include restaurants, offices, hotels, fitness centers, and more, “providing considerable economic benefits to Cook County.”

These gains are estimated to add $16 million in annual tax revenue to “Arlington Heights” property taxes. The team also said that in Cook County he would generate $9.8 million and in the state he would generate $51.3 million.

In September 2021, the Bears signed a deal to acquire the property, but “there are conditions that must be met in order to be able to close.”

“There are still many decisions to be made, but decisions will be made in the best interest of the Bears’ long-term future, their fans and the Chicagoland community,” the statement said.
